A Not So Ordinary Christmas

A Not So Ordinary Christmas
Well, Christmas 2020 is certain to be remembered. Many traditions have gone by the wayside for one reason or another.

Perhaps you are not in a festive mood and just aren’t going to decorate.

Perhaps no one is coming over so you don’t feel like making a special meal “just for us.”

Perhaps you are just tired out from dealing with this year’s “new normal” of homeschooling or virtual school, remote work, new ways of grocery shopping, learning about Zoom or other online options.

Perhaps you are not tuned into the “news” so barely even know what day it is or what holiday is coming!

It’s all OK. This is a unique year, after all.

It will still be Christmas whether you bake 10 dozen cookies – or not.

It will still be Christmas whether you shopped for all your relatives and friends and gift wrapped until the wee hours – or not.

It will still be Christmas whether you got a beautiful fresh-cut tree and emptied all of your Christmas storage boxes so your home looks like a winter wonderland – or not.

It will still be Christmas whether you have borrowed chairs to seat everyone around the table, a houseful of guests with laughter, a line leading to the bathroom – or not.

So, how can you “celebrate” differently this year?

Well, decorate what you can – it may just be displaying the cards you received from friends/family.

Watch a favorite Christmas movie – there are some channels that run them almost non-stop and they all have happy endings (at least the ones I watch!)

Put on your favorite Christmas CD or album (vinyl or whatever).

Wear something festive.

Call a friend you haven’t chatted with in a while. Or find them on Facebook and send them a private message. It’s always fun to catch up around the holidays!

Make one favorite dessert or entrée or even a side – just to make the time feel like it’s special and not just any old day.

Traditions are fun, but they aren’t sacred. This year is sure to be different, so celebrate it’s different-ness – and maybe jot down your thoughts in a Christmas journal so you will remember just how unique it was in 2020!

Christmas blessings to all!
