Loss of health - oh, this is a tough one for sure - lying in bed or sitting in a chair and being unable to get up or to do what you want to do. Then there's the need to depend on someone else to do things for you...yes, this is frustrating. Your days may be governed by appointments with doctors, labs, testing facilities. Your days are not your own!
I experienced a measure of this a number of years ago. A big part of the situation was fatigue - debilitating fatigue. Then there was brain fog. I'd never heard of brain fog before, but I certainly had it! What a helpless feeling. I remember the day it lifted - even though it was a temporary respite at the time - I hurried to get my taxes done with just a couple days to spare! That little window of clarity was what I needed and I was relieved. Eventually that fog truly lifted but it took a very long time. I almost didn't realize it was gone it was so gradual.
We all like to be in control of our lives. I'm not a doctor in any sense of the word, but from experience, I've found that having control of "something" is a boost to the spirit and can be a kind of "medicine." Now this can be something very small to others, but to you, it makes you feel "able."
Maybe you can control what you wear for the day, when you wake up or go to sleep - you create your own schedule, your own menu. Caring for your own basic needs provides a measure of control when all else appears to be out of control. Deciding when you will have that special dessert can be more uplifting that the actual dessert!
Is someone you love dealing with poor health? Are you caring for them in every way possible? Think for a moment – what can you allow them to control instead? It may be just the boost they need today.
